Devils keep making moves

The New Jersey Devils continue their team overhaul today with a series of three trades.

In the first deal of the day, the Devils acquired Boone Jenner and Tim Bozon from the Boston Bruins for the 13th overall pick in this year's draft along with promising youngster Anthony DeAngelo.

"I fought hard not to move one of the two first rounders we have, but we just were not going to be land Boone without it being included," said GM Tim Scholl at the early evening press conference. Competing with other team offers for Jenner, the Devils may have mortgage some future to land the 23-year old.

"It not like Boone won't be for a while (he will be an RFA after this upcoming season), so I think are future wasn't over fractured in this deal," remarked Scholl

Well, the second move of the day may have fractured more of the future for a big short term gain. The team landed from the New York Rangers winger Zach Parise and a 5th round pick next year. In exchange, minor goalie Anthony Stolarz, prospects Justin Kirkland and Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and a 2nd round pick next year went to Broadway. The teams also agreed to flip first round picks 15 for 18. To help with Parise's high salary, New York will be retaining $2 Million on each of the two seasons left on his contract.

"Obviously adding Zach after the Jenner trade just continues to stockpile our scoring fowards. You can never have too many of them, right?" Scholl asked.

The inclusion of the prospects and the young goalie was tough, but it all leads to an win-now attitude the club is taking this off-sason.

Still, the team was not done. Having addressed the forwards, the Devils turned to the blueline. The club announced they have acquired veteran, 33-year old Dennis Wideman from the Carolina Hurricanes. Going to North Carolina is 22-year old Brendan Leipsic.

"This deal provides another veternan to our backline. Last year, Dennis didnt have the best offesnive year, and his ratings show but he is still a very responsible Dman that the team needs," Scholl said. Signed for 2 years, the team is hoping for better offensive ratings next year without suffering defense. Carolina is retaining $2.5 Million of his salary in both seasons.

So alot has happened in the last week with the Devils, and we are not really sure they are done. Rumors have the team still looking for another defenseman, but with the team firing off so many bullets already, what does the team have left in the chamber?

Anyway, if they don't make any more moves leading into free agency, the team is vastily improved and expect big things.
