2017-2018 Real Awards (Part 2/4)
Everyone's a Winner
Part 2 - hope you enjoy. The last 2 parts will come out sometime before FA (I need the $ for Bergeron).
Kevin Switzer – Best Playoff Run to not win Cup
It came out of nowhere but Kevin had a great playoff run (Finally). Some might say Kevin actually sold off a bit during the season, but it ended up working out for him. His team came in to the playoffs playing well and took full advantage of a fairly easy path in the weak Western Conference. His team rolled right into the finals, performing much better than expected, but unfortunately struggled against the Eastern champs, showing as expected that the East is indeed better than the West.
Joe Bast – Best Flip-Flop
Joe pushed hard at the beginning of the season, bringing in Wheeler and Marleau. The total cost was effectively two 2nds. He also brought in Hossa and Taylor Hall. Unfortunately, all the fire power didn’t help him in the end, and as he started to doubt his ability to make a long playoff run he expertly sold off, getting a haul for Hall, a 1 for Wheeler, and a 2 for Hossa. I honestly think he could have made some noise in the playoffs if he’d held on, but I guess he didn’t have confidence in his team for some reason…
Leon Yu – Best Tank Job
Solid tank by the Oilers. They sold off assets for picks, amassing a pile of picks for the 2018 and 2019 draft, they successfully finished near the bottom, survived the lottery ending up with the 2nd overall pick, and didn’t screw it up as they picked a solid young player in Pettersen. That’s how you tank. Now the real challenge, lets see if Leon can find a way out of the basement in the next few years.
Rumpy – Best Offense for Next Season
Too bad he has no D. Seriously though, his roster is stacked offensively, and I mean stacked. It has to be the best offensive lineup. If he can find a way to get better defensively overall, he could be the team to beat. To bad he will probably trade away his best assets for shitty bruins prospects in a drunken stupor. Oh so close Rumpy…
Miika Laakso – Best Finnish Team
What else. Seriously though, how long will this go on? Is he in it for the long haul? If that’s the case, it probably needs to be a Finnish re-build rather than trading for active players. In the mean time, we will happily take his $50 into the pot on an annual basis 😊
Joel Mireau – Best Political Views
Couldn’t be more opposite from my views LOL. His tirades in the chat are the stuff of legends. I have to think he can even make Bryce uncomfortable at times. Takes balls to put yourself out there like that when no one else agrees with you 😊. Politics aside, Joel seems like a good guy – probably one of the easiest to trade with in my experience, so maybe he should get the award for easiest trader instead. Anyway, moving on…
Rob Botham – Best Fan of a Shitty Team
There are no Sens fans in here, so we can give this award honestly to our friendly Canuck fan. The canucks are shit. Sure they have Boeser, Horvat and the new guy, but they don’t really have anyone else. I actually can’t even think who their goalie is? They have been a disaster for years, wasting many years of the Sedins, which is really just sad. It’s only going to get worse as the only team Dim Jim can win a trade with is the Sens, which isn’t saying much.
Devon Cordell – Best Attempt at Analytics
Notice I didn’t say best “use of” analytics. Devon loves his analytics, but I’m not convinced it’s working for him. I appreciate that he can understand that shit, and tries to make use of it, but so far I haven’t seen the results. I can only assume his draft list was based at least partially off analytics, so we will have to see how this works out in the long run.
