Daily Recap
Flames 4
Devils 5 OT
And it ends!!!! The New Jersey Devils are the new BRHL Champions following another thriller in Game 5. This series went largely to script as NJ won all 3 games they outshot Calgary by a large margin while the Flames lone victory came when they had the shot advantage. The real surprise and quite possibly the turning point of the series was Calgarys inability to score on the powerplay having gone the first 4 games and almost halfway through the first period of game 5 before finally breaking through with one. Although NJ was largely ineffective as well the play was tilted in the Devils favor at 5 on 5 and NJ did net the game winner on this night on the powerplay sending a very disappointed Calgary team home empty handed. Calgary GM Kevin surprised alot of folks starting Chad Johnson in net due to the inconsistant play of Cam Talbot despite the Flames #1 being ready to go and the Devils being forced to their back-up due to D.Dubnyk being exhausted. That gamble really didn't amount to much however as Johnson was injured just 12:07 into the first period and obviously didn't figure in the decision. Cam Talbot played well stopping 38 shots but the Devils just kept coming and eventually ended the Flames season when K. Hayes scored at 7:06 of overtime on the PP. Great run guys ! Devils win cup 4-1
