Daily Recap
Devils 7
Flames 3
After a ho-hum affair in the last meeting this was a good old-fashioned rockem-sockem tilt worthy of watching twice! 101 shots on goal, a line brawl, injuries, power play goals, great saves and 44 combined hits later we find ourselves here! This one started out with a pretty entertaining first period and the hometown Flames up 1-0 but nobody could have expected what took place in the second period with the Devils outshooting the Flames 28-25 but more importantly outscoring them 4-0. There were more shots in the second period alone then in the last game combined and the Devils took full advantage of their opportunities while the Flames simply did not. The third period was largely just a scrimmage after Nick Foligno scored at 7:59 to put NJ up 5-1 and all but end it. As was mentioned in the last recap, these teams had combined for zero goals on the powerplay heading into this game but the Devils finally broke through with 3 while the Flames were once again 0-4 and if they don't correct this issue quickly it will be a quicker finals. Of concern for the Devils heading to game 5 will be the health of starter D. Dubnyk who was completely exhausted after this one as well as the status of top line center Mike Fisher as he will certainly miss at least 1 game and possibly 2 with a right arm injury. The Flames look to take advantage of the Devils misfortune and steal the next game in New Jersey to prolong the series now trailing 3-1
