Daily Recap

Sens     3

Devils   5

This game 5 match-up looked very similar to the Flames/Preds series and the result was very similar as well. The hometown Devils completely owned this game and if not for a poor showing from starter D. Dubnyk this result would have been embarrassing for the now dethroned champs. The first period ended with a slim 1-0 advantage for the home side with Logan Couture scoring shorthanded near the end of the frame. Even more insulting then the goal allowed was that the Senators were 0-3 on the powerplay in the period and never had a single shot on goal being outshot 8-0 in the frame. This game was a complete one-sided affair throughout so it was hard to imagine that when John Tavares scored his 1st of the playoffs (yes I said 1st ) at the 15:06 mark of the third period we were looking at a 3-3 game!  Zach Parise wasted little time however restoring the Devil advantage on the powerplay and they didn't look back enroute to the victory. B.Holtby did his job for the most part keeping his team alive until the late going but the Senators simply could not muster enough offensive pressence in this one being outshot 32-16 for the game and being closed out in the process. Devils win series 4-1
