Daily Recap
Devils 8
Rangers 4
Ok, WTF is that? After losing the first games games on home ice without much of a fight the Devils role into NY and take 2 on the road with this one being a tad absurd! Before the game was 5 minutes old the Devils had built a 4-0 lead and sent starter Andersen to the bench for the game. The game seemed to settle into a more normal pace for about another 10 minutes or so before all hell broke loose once again with both teams netting 2 more goals in the final 3 minutes of the period for a 6-2 Devils lead. The teams would each score 2 more goals the rest of the way resulting in a pretty convincing 8-4 final score so to expect goaltending to have been a factor would appear to be a stretch. With such a lopsided victory it would also be a stretch to say that this was a close game but this was a close game and goaltending was factor. NY actually outshot the Devils in 2 of 3 periods and 44-39 overall but Devils starter D. Dubnyk really kept this game under wraps by stopping all 15 second period shots he faced while his team managed to net another to expand the lead and cement the victory! Both squads will likely look to tighten up defensively moving forward and hopefully win a home game while they are at it. Series tied at 2
Habs 1
Sens 2
This game featured the most inconsistent of the playoff starters battling for 3 straight periods with someone being an unfortunate loser. As has been reported numerous times, S. Mason was forced into the starter role with the serious injury to "goalie Bob" and has been all over the map going from shutout victory to looking like minor league fodder depending on the night! At the other end of the rink is B. Holtby that has gone from shutouts to being pulled a couple of times so to say that nobody knows what to expect from either of them from game to game is an understatement. Que this game!!! The Habs come into this game down 2-1 in the series and desperate to even things up, after 40 minutes the game is tied 1-1 with both goalies doing their part. The Habs appeared to be poised to even the series playing a picture perfect road game limiting the chances against while outshooting the hometown Sens but the third period was an entirely different story! The Sens with their understanding of the situation and playoff experience took full advantage of home ice in the third and peppered the Habs net with 19 shots. They only managed to get 1 past the stingy Mason but that was all they needed to secure the win. Hard to imagine a goalie posting a .947 save % and losing but that is exactly what happened as Holtby posted a .969 save %. The Habs will look for answers to their struggling offense trailing the series now 3-1
