Daily Recap

Devils    4

Rangers  2

Yet another stellar performance by a goaltender keeping his team alive in these playoffs as Frederik Andersen stopped 37 of 40 shots faced. Too bad for himself and the rest of his Rangers that they couldn't muster enough offense to steal this game away! The Devils played their best game of the series in this must win game and if not for the exceptional play of Andersen this game would have been decided before the puck dropped in the second period! GM Tim must have been sweating bullets after 2 periods as his squad was playing about as well as ever but only had a 2-1 lead despite outshooting the opposition 35-17. The third period turned into a rather boring game of cat and mouse as nobody appeared to want to make that glaring mistake to cost their team a win and shots/chances were hard to come by. Each team did manage to score a goal on the PP however and with the Rangers desperate to tie the game late gave up the clinching goal with the net empty! Rangers still up in the series now at 2-1

Habs    2

Sens     3    2 OT

Once again a goalie is in the spotlight as B. Holtby was the story of the game stopping 50 of 52 shots against and stealing a win for his largely ineffective team. This has to be a totally gut wrenching loss for the Habs as they led 2-0 with 3 minutes left in the game and gave up the tieing goal with just 35 seconds on the clock! Despite the shock of blowing that lead the Habs came out for overtime regrouped and focused and begain to take the play to the hometown Sens determined to get a leg up in the series. Holtby was equal to the task however and turned away the frustrated Hab shooters time and again before unlikely hero Alec Martinez scored his 1st of the playoffs to steal game 3. The Sens braintrust will have a decision to make going into game 4 as Holtby appears to be teetering on the edge of exhaustion and may need to sit. Sens up 2-1
