Trade Deadline Duds

No studs.. just duds

It was a tough and awkward deadline but these teams sucked the most at it.  Hopefully they don't feel as bad as Rumpy's Mexican hangover at the end of the season.

San Jose Sharks

An inexplicably bad TDL for San Jose.  The worst team in the BRHL didn't have much to sell, that's to be expected but when you turn around and 'sell' a 23 year old rookie with 36 points on the season for a 30 year old making 5 plus million for the next 2 years with 34 points on the season, it leaves people scratching their heads.  You want to move Kerfoot for whatever reason, that's fine and the trade itself isn't horrible value wise if you were trying to bolster a playoff team.  San Jose is not a playoff team though and won't be for a while.  In addition, Kerfoot was shopped for maybe 2 hours.  Yes, Hornqvist can be protected and flipped for something after the expansion draft but a 31 year old with 2 years left at 5 plus mil, isn't likely to return when Kerfoot could have if properly shopped.

Tyler has done a good job of building draft picks for this years draft as you'd expect a rebuilding team to do.  They have at least 3 picks in every round except the first and seventh.  Normally, you'd want a team in San Jose's position to hang onto all of their picks but with expansion on deck this offseason, this season is a bit different.  San Jose should have used some of their picks to buy low on guys that teams couldn't protect to either build on or sell once expansion has come and gone.  The teams protected forward list may well look worse than the list of players selected in the expansion draft.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Poor Billy.  He doesn't really belong here as he was more of a victim of an unfortunate event but here he is.  He made his playoffs or bust move already and his team has been slowly sinking since.  Then on deadline eve, Tarasenko loses a leg.  He certainly wasn't going to replace Tarasenko but a guy who could at least replace some of his scoring would've been wise deadline be damned.  Billy has sold the farm to make the playoffs this year but still had a couple of useful pieces that could've been used.  Losing depth in the McDavid trade certainly magnified the injury.  Either way, Billy is only 2 points ahead of Rex with 2 extra games played.

St. Louis Blues

I'm not going to pick on Eric for leaving his pro roster intact.  He obviously feels he has a good team and wanted to keep it that way regardless of expansion.  That being said, he has a lot of talent on the farm that is going to be snapped up very quickly.  The likes of Forsling, Carric and Dotchin will go early.  Sure, Eric could protect them but now he's losing from his pro roster that he already can't keep together.  He should've got something for some of these guys while he could.  Maybe it's a case of Rex and Larry not being able to take everyone but he's definitely going to lose the max players to expansion.

New York Islanders

Apparently the trade deadline snuck up on Ryan and he was left holding a couple of decent forwards.  Duclair isn't anything fantastic to write home about but if there was a 3rd and a prospects on the table, it's definitely an oops.  The Isles were also stuck trying to be contenders with expansion approaching.  They are going to lose a good defenseman in the draft, it's just a matter of which 4 of Hedman, Myers, Murphy, Morrisey and Shattenkirk he protects.

Washington Capitals

Simply for not taking advantage of me for Horvat yet.  You lose just for that Joe.  Fuck you.

Philadelphia Flyers

I'm not really sure where to start here.  You fuck your rebuild by homer trading a potential top 5 pick and a good all around young d-man for a very one dimensional defenseman and Anthony keeps talking about spending money in FA.  So why not move more picks and get some more guys that can contribute next year and at least say you went for it instead of sitting on a fence of mediocrity for the next few years.  Anthony added Sheahan and Claesson but those aren't the guys he should have been looking at.  Anthony is going to go spend 80 million in free agency and will still be the worst team in the division.
