Maple Leafs counting down to deadline
Key veterans counting down to deadline day
The Toronto Maple Leafs signalled a definite re-tool of the teams prospect base early this season. With the deadline fast approaching will the team strip it down even more?
"We'll see what this week holds, but as of right now we have nothing on the go," said Hansford. "I've told all of our guys that we'll listen to what is out there and make the best decision for our team in the short and long term."
Toronto is believed to have the ability to add a forward or 2 to improve its pending expansion list and has some depth at defence.
"When you look at this team, its clear our blue line is the strongest part of the team, with 4 guys we'd be happy protecting but nothing is locked in just yet. We could get a call and consider moving someone. Up front we aren't deep so we could consider adding a player there, but we'll see. It would have to make sense and be a player that is better than what we have already."
Toronto has actively shopped Marc-Edouard Vlasic and has also listened to offers on Karl Alzner.
"No one is untouchable, but we certainly have guys that would cost an awful lot for us to even consider moving," said Hansford. "I'd never say never, but the odds of us dealing a player like Drew Doughty is so slim. We have every intention of re-signing Drew to a long term contract."
