Ex Rangers GM explains decision

Always wanted an expansion team

I have always had an interest in expansion teams. Going back to 1994 when baseball expanded to include the Colorado Rockies I followed it closely. I actually prepared my own protected lists and drafted alongside the two team. My intent was to continue to build "my team" as time progressed. I remember reading that a Denver ? newspaper had a large article with a mock expansion draft and mailed like $10 for a copy of the paper. Unfortunately real life eventually got in the way. I got promoted to Det Sgt in 1995 and my dad passed after a 14 month bout with lung cancer shortly after that (was sick when I got promoted, the Chief moved the promotion date up).

Once I retired in 2007 one of the first things I did was do my own baseball expansion draft. I made it as realistic as possible. After five years I threw it away and did it again. Last year I did the same thing all over again. The team right now is horrible. To show how thorough my baseball draft was there was two teams drafted. I would hold one team in my left hand and the other in my right hand and told my wife to pick a hand. That is what decided which team I got. This insured that my draft wasn't biased towrds one team.

Of course I got the hockey expansion bug. I thought that hockey expansion was close but soon learned it wasn't. I did a mock hockey expansion draft the year Seth Jones was drafted. He was my first ever draft pick. My mock team eventually got decent. I also drafted Reinhart (oops) and Eichel. I didn't get McDavid because the worst team in the league ended up with the second pick. Anyway, I drafted right along side the Gold Knights this fall. I changed the expansion rules so that more players were protected (like the previous rules). Someday I will write an article about how my team is progressing. I also wasn't allowed to trade slots for picks.

When the Golden Knights looked like it was going to arrive I started pestering the commissioner in my old league. It seemed like quite a few guys wanted it and the league folded before expansion eve happened.

I joined the BRHL and found out you guys are expanding to two teams. Based on the previous league I thought there was no way in hell a team would fall to the FNG (fucking new guy). When the two GM's were announced and one was a new guy I contacted Bryce inquiring why no one wanted it. I also told him that if an opening happened I as definately interested. When I saw that Joe was taking Boston and that an expansion GM slot was open I contacted Bryce within 10 minutes. Operation harass was in full effect. Bryce told me to remind him so later yesterday I reminded him again. I offered to resign from the Rangers because I have knocked Rex for some of his moves and didn't want to change someone else's team. Last night Bryce told me he had to talk to Eric about my offer. I stayed up until 1:00 AM (late for me ) looking at guys rosters.

I am really excited about this opportunity against the quality of GM's in this league and thank Bryce and Eric for the opportunity.
