Knee Jerk Reaction - BRHL Entry Draft to NHL Opening Night

A quick look at players who were just drafted in the BRHL who made opening night 23 man rosters

21 players heard their name called at the BRHL draft who made teams out of camp, broken down by round

Round 1 - 12 players

Round 2 - 3 players

Round 3 - 1 player

Round 4 - 3 players

Round 5 - 1 player

Round 6 - 1 player

And now, a look by team and player. Three teams, Boston, Columbus and Colorado have 3 players from the draft making opening night rosters, but where they were taken, are very different.

Boston - Matthew Tkachuk (1), Charlie McAvoy (1) Janne Kuokkonen (1) - Good drafting in the first round by Boston, Kuokkonen a bit of a surprise making the NHL roster, but the Bruins iht on the early picks, as they should.

Columbus - Tage Thompson (2), Victor Mete (2), Jesper Bratt (6) - Bratt is the lowest drafted player to make a 23 man roster, and Mete was largely ridiculed by the masses (including yours truly), but Jesse is starting to get a reputation as a top drafter, and finding guys who can make an early impact will only enhance that.

Colorado - Matt Benning (2), Viktor Antipin (3), Paul Ladue (4) - 3 dmen that Shuck was high on heading into the draft, and in some cases, moved up to get. All 3 dmen are expected to play big roles for their teams this season, the downside? An expansion crunch awaits the Aves.

Los Angeles - Patrick Laine (1), Clayton Keller (1) - Hard to give much credit here, congrats to Tyler for not pulling a Devon and messing things up.

Washington - Austin Matthews (1) - No commentary necessary

San Jose - Tyson Jost (1) - You'd like to see him higher than centering the 4th line, but at least he's in to start the year.

Calgary - Mikhael Sergachev (1) - Should get prime look in TB

Buffalo - Michael McLeod (1) - He's hurt, so still up, not sure if he will get games in

Toronto - Pierre-Luc Dubios (1) - Trying to avoid the Hansford curse of first round picks

Montreal - Jakob Chychrun (1) - Hurt to start the year, but his spot isn't in question

Vancouver - Logan Brown (1) - We will see if he gets more than a cup of coffee

Ottawa - Jan Ruuta (4) - Holy crap, Kirk made a good pick. Ruuta will get a long look in Chicago

Detroit - Oscar Fantenberg (4) - Nolan with a nice grab as Fantenbergs all around game has translated well

Florida - Andreas Borgman (5) - Made the Leafs out of camp, Borgman even had an assist in his first game and looked comfortable.

Fuck. Your. Youth.
Maple Leafs now with 2 players. Samuel Girard (2nd rd, 60th overall) made his Preds debut with an assist vs the Flyers.
