UFA update
day 2-3
Now several days in lets review where the league is at with the good, bad and ugly.
The good:
· Brandon Sutter 5 years 1.9 mil in Sign and trade with Jets. Great 3rd line center but can move up to 2. Good value. Jets turned around and moved Tyler Bozak and 5th for 2nd . So essentially Bozak and 5th for Sutter. Some not a fan (Dan) but 5 years of Sutter at good cost control is greater than 1 year of Bozak prior to his UFA status.
· Kevin Klein one year at 1.45. His last year in the BRHL, the COB signed a solid veteran dman to help fill out roster. 78 def and 88 ck could have done much worse.
· Dan “the tank” solid defensive signings. None grossly overpriced with Edler, Beaucheimin and Green all on short term at decent value.
The bad:
· Joe Pavelski to Blues for three seasons at 10.75 per season and 16mil sb. This might be an ugly deal soon. I like him, but not at this rate, or term. Less quality in Sharks NHL line-up could mean less offense. Might be a real eye sore in year 3.
· Kirk signing the veteran Jagr for two years. He had a big dip this year in talent and can’t find a new deal yet. 2 years 4mil and 4mil sb is 12mil too much.
· Wheeler to ducks for 11mil and 5.5mil sb for one year. Ok if you want to take a step forward, but on one year deal, while still building, why bother wasting 5.5mil. Cap floor I understand, but why not other guys and no bonus?
Marleau - 3 years 8.5 with 7 mil sb. I like the deal for Leafs in NHL at but not the BRHL. In twilight of career, Marleau numbers have dropped off recently. In year three, this might be the worst contract in the BRHL though Pavelski might rival!
The ugly:
· NJ Devils signing of Dustin Brown for 3 years. 2.8 mil on the current rates are ok, but a 4mil sb and 3 year deal is not looking great for the former Kings captain. They tried to get rid of his NHL deal because a decade of destroying his body has taken a toll. A one year deal would be ok. A 3 year deal makes this ugly.
