Maple Leafs lock up 6 to new contracts
Turris and Alzner sign 5 year extensions
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced extensions for 6 RFA players for next season.
Centre Kyle Turris signed a 5 year extension with an AAV of $4,410,000 with a max bonus.
Defenceman Karl Alzner signed a 5 year extension with a AAV of $3,780,000 with a max bonus.
Defenceman Morgan Rielly signed a 3 year extension with an AAV of $4,500,000 with a max bonus.
Forward Elias Lindholm signed a 4 year extension with an AAV of $2,794,500 with a max bonus.
Also signing new deals were forwards Cedric Paquette and Dmitrij Jaskin.
"The business of hockey never ends," said GM Garrett Hansford. "We wanted to get these deals done so we could focus on the work that's ahead of us to retool this lineup. It's obvious we're already looking towards next season with some of the deals we've made and that are likely ahead of us the rest of this season."
With no deals for forwards Brandon Sutter and Matt Martin it appears they may test the RFA market.
"We're comfortable with Brandon and Matt going to market," said Hansford. "We can really place their value at that point and then decide if we will retain them by matching any offers they receive."
Toronto is expected to trade its remaining unrestricted free agents as the trade deadline approaches. Both Mikko Koivu and Patrick Sharp are in the final years of their contracts.
