2024 BRHL Awards
Winners of the BRHL awards
Congratulations to Leon and his Edmonton Oilers on winning his first ever BRHL cup and to everyone on another fun and exciting BRHL season. We have some more fun ahead with the BRHL draft taking place June 23rd and 24th but for now lets take a look back at the award winners from this past season.
BRHL Cup: Leon Yu, Edmonton Oilers
Congrats to Leon on his magical run and everyone else who made the playoffs.
BRHL Minors Champion: Jared Mitchell, Rochester Americans
The championship nobody seems to care about. You know it's bad when you wish your opponent luck in the finals and they say "Oh, am I in the finals?".
Art Ross Trophy: Tim Stutzle, New Jersey Devils - 103 Points
Maurice Richard Trophy: Auston Matthews, Edmonton Oilers - 51 Goals
Calder Trophy: Brock Faber (TBL)
The Tampa Bay Lightning's Brock Faber (12 votes) is taking home the Calder Trophy this year beating out pre-season favourite Connor Bedard (LAK) (8 votes) and Adam Fantilli (LVG) (2 votes)
Faber finished the season with 60 points, only 1 point behind Bedard. But it was his all-around play and how dependant the Lightning were on him that gave him the nod over Bedard.
Vezina Trophy: Connor Hellebuyck (EDM)
Hellebuyck was the unanimous winner this year snagging all 22 of the votes for the Vezina Trophy. Chicago Blackhawks goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and Detroit Red Wings goalie Linus Ullmark were the other two nominees.
Hellebuyck won 57 games this season, 12 more than Bobrovsky and 14 more than Ullmark. He also doubled them in shutouts this year with 10. Just staggering numbers and a no brainer for a unanimous win.
Norris Trophy: Roman Josi (UHC)
Norris voting was tight this year with the Utah Mammoth's Roman Josi (10) narrowly beating out New Jersey Devils defender MacKenzie Weegar (9). The New York Rangers Cale Makar also received one vote.
Josi finished six points behind Weegar this season but it was his plus 31 rating and overall defensive play that stood out to voters.
Hart Trophy: Connor McDavid (EDM)
McDavid received more than double the votes over second place New Jersey Devils Star Tim Stutzle (6) with 13 votes. Also receiving votes is the New York Islanders star Aleksander Barkov (3).
McDavid played 82 games this season scoring 46 goals and 56 assists for 102 points as well as a plus 37.
Trade of the Year:
To SJ: Jeremy Swayman, Thomas Chabot, Jonas Rondbjerg, Nathan Gaucher, SEA 1st & 2nd 2025, SJS & BOS 2nd 2025, SEA 3rd 2026
To Kraken: Patrik Laine, Karel Vejmelka, Matthew Benning, SJS 1st 2025
BRHL Minors MVP: Josh Anderson RW, Rochester Americans (BUF)
Voting for minors MVP wasn't particularly close this season either with the Buffalo Sabres Josh Anderson receiving 16 votes compared to Detroit Red Wings Nicolas Robertson (5) and teammate Thomas Bordeleau (1).
Anderson was 12 points clear of second place Robertson and 14 points up on linemate Bordeleau. He's winning the MVP on the back of a 86 assist, 128 point season.
GM of the Year: Greg Almeida (Bruins)
Greg recieved the most votes for GM of the Year with 6 votes edging out Leon Yu (EDM) who had 3 votes and Eric Ferraro (TB) with two votes. Other GM's to recieve one vote each were David Yee (CHI), Tyler Shedden (NSH), Tyler Wagner (VAN), Jordan Hansford (WPG) & Jared Mitchell (BUF).
Greg's contribution to the league in the chat, his activity through trades, sending in lines as well as his immense catalog of dick jokes were recognized by his fellow GM's who decided to bestow the honour upon the Boston socialite GM of the Year.
