Maple Leafs looking to future

Team reportedly shopping all pending free agents

The Toronto Maple Leafs continue to regroup after a disappointing start to his BRHL season.

"We just haven't been good enough," said GM Garrett Hansford.   "Our goal differential and special teams indicate we should probably be higher in the standings than we are but we're not going to sit back and assume things will straighten out."

The team has 3 pending free agents, including Mikko Koivu, Patrick Sharp and Dominic Moore.

"While we continue to work towards daily improvement this season, we cannot ignore the future," said Hansford.  "We've been working to restocking out prospect base and we're getting their.   We'll continue to add picks in the coming months."

Toronto is believed to have been close to a deal for Dominic Moore but that appears to have fallen through.

"Just a miscommunication," said Hansford.

It is believed the Maple Leafs have a deal for recent waiver wire acquisition Joakim Andersson.

"We have nothing to announce at this stage, when we have something i'm sure you'll find out," said Hansford.

In addition to the teams UFA's, James Neal's name has been floated as being available for a younger impact forward.  A pure goal scorer could return a good amount, particularly if the team was prepared to talk about prospects or picks alone.

Under the terms of the CBA, Toronto has the ability to retain 1 more contract this season and multiple next season.
